Starfield does tend to feel like a marmite game; you either love it or hate it.
I, personally, love it, and have sunk hundreds of hours into the game even before the recent Free Lanes content update (which has been like a breath of fresh air for my new playthrough).
If you're looking to pick up the game now it's available on PS5, the best deal going right now can be found at Amazon in the UK.
It's down to £36.99, which is a considerably big drop from both its original £69.99 RRP on Xbox and £44.99 RRP on PS5, especially since the PlayStation version only launched earlier this month.
Starfield’s early performance on PS5 is reportedly off to a fairly muted start.
According to analyst Rhys Elliott of Alinea Analytics, the game had sold around 140,000 copies on PlayStation 5 within its first week on sale, a figure he described as “lukewarm”.
That contrast is already being used to question Microsoft’s broader strategy of bringing first-party titles to PlayStation after a significant delay.
For comparison, Playground Games’ Forza Horizon 5 has reportedly sold an estimated 5.7 million copies on PS5 since its April 2025 release, despite launching more than three years after its Xbox debut.
On top of the sales conversation, Starfield’s PS5 launch has also been overshadowed by technical issues. Bethesda has acknowledged reports of crashes on the platform and says a hotfix is due soon.
Players have also flagged more serious problems since release, including freezes, crashes, and save-related issues affecting both standard PS5 systems and PS5 Pro hardware, with some reports of progression-blocking bugs emerging just days after launch.
Taken together, it means Starfield’s PS5 debut is arriving at a slightly awkward moment, solid enough to tempt a purchase at the current discounted price, but clearly still rough around the edges for anyone hoping for a more stable, full-price experience.
